Interaction I poses an interpretable two-part sequence of an exchange between three abstracted figures. The relief stands on a frame away from a wall or surface to introduce a sense of physical, sculptural audience response.
The work draws the concept of bas-reliefed narrative from archaeological palace reliefs and steles, but swaps ancient propaganda-driven narrative imagery for completely interpretable interaction. Where ancient royalty would display definitive accounts of expeditions and conflict, my relief asks the viewer to interpret the context subjectively.

Interaction I employs scale as a conceptual pull, using its three metre length as an imposingly semi-monumental object. Drawing from Assyrian palace reliefs, I adopt a scale which stands larger than its viewer to attract audience interaction, but smaller than monumental to retain its observable nature.
